My son, aged four, watched from the shore:

  1. I can’t figure out whether it’s supposed to be, but this little verse is devastating to me. But all good poetry is a little devastating.

  2. I’m so glad you see that in this verse, oudenos. It isn’t cute and precious, although it pretends to be. It *is* devastating.
