Our Baby’s Prayer

By Estelle Webb Thomas

O, when our baby says his prayer,
I’m sure the angels smile;
And earth-folk lay aside their cares
To watch a little while.

Through dimpled fingers, wide outspread
With dainty, elfin grace,
His bright eyes, as he “b’esses,” us,
Beam on each loving face.

From curly head to tiny feet,
He is so tender and so sweet!
O, what a treat to Them up There,
To hear our baby’s precious prayer!

  2. Oh, and interesting use of the capitalized and plural “Them”! (“O, what a treat to Them up There”). Is that “Them” as in God and the angels? Or is that “Them” as in Eliza R. Snow’s “Father, Mother”?
