I have several friends who are in the foreign service, or have a spouse that is, and almost every email asks about what has changed and what is the same. With one of my best friends, we joke, when we have time for a phone chat, that we would love to switch lives for a year. She would like to have a whole year in Oregon, and I would like a year of travel, a housekeeper/nanny and helping to shape foreign policy. Then we both remember we like our lives, and we like our friendship that expands our hearts. We only get long chats a couple times a year, and it took me a few years to realize that she treasured them as much as I do.

When I was growing up, I always liked to read the stories in the Relief Society magazine. Some of them, I remember, were serialized, and I could hardly wait a while month to read the next installment. Thanks for reprinting these nostalgic stories. .
