The news people keep offering comparisons to help us understand how bad it is (as if literally choking a couple of times walking from the bus stop to the library weren’t enough). If those comparisons are right, being outside in this muck for eight hours does the equivalent lung damage of smoking a pack of cigarettes during the day.

Temple Visitors’ Center a few week ago. Six uninterrupted hours unwrapping the dozens of light strands from one 12-foot tree, each strand 25 feet long with 50 lights. It’s amazing what can be done with plentiful free labor. It was a wonderful, quiet, meditative day.
