There was the “pre-kiss” and the “post-kiss” but the actual kiss was completely lost in the midst of the wind ruffling Joanna’s hair and the whole night closing around her in beauty, with stars in her hair and clouds on her shoulders.

They say that love scenes are hard to write (as Ms. Harry Potter apparently proved in her latest, “adult,” novel–no, folks, I didn’t read it, either!), and it seems that Mrs. Margery Stewart simply skipped the main event.

So different from the stereotype we were warned about by general authorities where seeking a career made women hard and less feminine. Success has made Joanna soft and passive. No high stress heart attack for her!

Beautiful, but she’s very passive in this chapter. This isn’t the Joanna fighting to build a business to support her family. And she’s so quick to think that Abigail will take care of the children, as if being fed and clothes and washed behind their ears was all that mattered. Last chapter she turned down a date to attend her son’s performance, and now she’s leaving for six months with less than a week’s notice from a man she hasn’t seen in years?

I expected her to see her own son or daughter at the bar. If David is 18 then Penny is 16.
