Yes, we need some drama and conflict. This whole episode seems like a setup for a crash of some sort.

It’s just that this is Chapter 7, so it feels far too early for “happily ever after”. I think her health will be revisited. But you’re right that so far everything has been sorted out.

Or perhaps I read too many Thomas Hardy novels where bad things always happen.

Why do you assume it won’t? (Serious question.) So far things have not been perfect, and there has been tons of hard work, but so far this story, and the previous one by this author, have kept an upward trajectory for the characters.

The internal diagologue about her feelings of being pretty, and amused that anyone things to ask her out, ring true. I like that even in success she still is three dimensional as a real person.

I’m glad she went to her son’s performance. I hope her success lasts! But this is only chapter 7, so I suspect it won’t.
