Then it's good that this series is the one with the 10-part sequel. (I'll hold off on posting that one for a while, though, in case there are readers who don't care for this one.)

Probably the best of all these serials, at least that I have read. When Mr. Drew said "White poeple,", it thought here we go again, but it turned out to not to be racist at all. My early cynicism has given way to unreserved admiration for this story. People act like real people, and you aren't being beaten over the head with the moral of the story.

And since we are at Tuba City/Moencopi, I am not waiting any more for someone to drown when the dam washes out, as the Little Colorado is not a factor here. But it will only be a few years before the Bureau of Indian Affairs realigns the reservation boundaries, forcing the Hopis and their Mormon alliess out of Tuba City, so Prudy and John need to hustle to make the trading post pay off and return to Salt Lake City!

Heh, heh! Despite the problems that have been noted, it really is good for its genre, isn't it? I mean, I love the little things like how John tugs on his ear or brushes back his hair as he thinks, and how Prudy was tempted to keep the gold rather than being a one-dimensional goody-goody character, and the mud bath after the beestings, and all those little textural details.
