Right now I am in the process of helping my husband understand what it means that he has decided to follow through on his inspiration to move us from a four bedroom home into an 1100 square foot apartment, before my next round of surgeries. I have had the confirmation that it is the right thing to DI, but I have lived in much smaller apartments, with a husband and children. He has never had a roommate, or lived without at least 1400 square feet and a garage. So, this story reminds me of so many conversations over the last week.

A lesson learned early in marriage. Her space is inside, my space is outside. The problem is that over the years, she’s used her power of eminent domain and annexation to take over the outside, too. Would to heaven I lived in a democracy!

Well, you could always use a stop bath to stop the development. A one or two percent solution of acetic acid and water (cold, naturally) should be effective.

My poor mother had to put up with Kodak-yellow cans of hypo and boxes of film and paper in her refrigerator all the years I was growing up, as well as having the second bathroom always set up as a darkroom.

My own experiences in the darkroom, Mark, were negative.

She knew more about photography than she let on–how else would she know what “Hypo” is?

And maybe more than the author: what are the chances of using a kitchen? Slim at best. There aren’t many windowless kitchens, and too many sources of random light–the refrigerator, pilot lights on the stove, etc.

But I always thought it would be fun to take a date into the darkroom, just to see what developed.
