I hope they will soon move to making exhibits like this available via the internet, at least (and they may -- the Church is doing more and more to decentralize things, such as making the CHL catalog available via Internet, and a willingness to digitize more and more for people who can't come in person). There might be some hesitation over a traveling exhibit, given the monetary value of, say, the Book of Commandments. But I certainly do understand the frustration of knowing these things are happening and being unable to participate.

On the bright side, I have permission to mail out copies of the exhibit guide, and just this minute picked up a handful to satisfy the requests that have already been made. Anybody else want one? Send me your mailing address, at AEParshall (at] aol {dot) com.

I really hope that some day there will be a traveling collection, so that members outside of Utah can have a similar experience. I do try to keep down my resentment, but sometimes it seems so unfair that things happen only in Utah. In a worldwide church where so many of our members can barely afford to go to the temple, never mind to Utah to see a page from the translating of the Book of Mormon. Well, I guess it just bothers the egalitarian in me.

I did wait several days to respond, to let most of my feelings calm down.

Thanks for this write up. I was able to see this on Tuesday and it was so well worth my time. They do an excellent job on these exhibits and you are right. The guides are just a great keepsake as well. I hope more people will begin to go to these Treasures of the Collection exhibits. Although when I was there on Tuesday there were at least 15 people in the exhibit, so that was encouraging. I volunteer at the Church Museum and see many great things there, but there are always things in these 'treasures' exhibits that wow me.

Anyone who may be following this post in hopes of getting a copy of the guide, email me at AEParshall {at} aol [dot] com, with your mailing address, please. It may help my request to be able to give an approximate number of guides wanted. And of course I promise to be discreet with your addresses and real names -- there's just no other way for me to send you anything!

Ardis, I wish I could be there to see the exhibit. You portrayed it so beautifully. I was going to ask if you could get me a copy of the guide, then I saw your comment #8. So, if you can get copies, I really would like one. Thank you for sharing this with those of us who can't be there.
