Giving the "truthiness" of the last statement, I also checked into the first statement, "Utah's Most Important Agricultural Asset." FAIL. It appears that in 1932 that commodity might have been turkeys, in terms of the actual value of the agricultural crops produced that year. And total sugar beet production was down steadily in terms of acreage committed to beet production since 1920, with a slight spike in 1932, and then continued decline after that. But then what do I know? All the sugar beets I thinned as a kid were in Idaho.

Apart from the Idaho bit, I got all this off teh interwebz.

Ah, that wonderful tie between sugar and health. To think that here in New York City you can't buy a sugary soft drink (except at a grocery store) in a size bigger than 16 ounces! How unhealthy! How disloyal!

But then they're probably not made with U&I beet sugar, so it's only unhealthy, not disloyal.
