If Serena were the niece, that would make her “royal” enough to be accepted. But that still leaves out poor Jeff. He is going to have to be related to Serena’s uncle to ever really be in.

Under their dark dresses one could almost see the black woolen petticoats that warmed their thin joints.

I never realized that women went around “almost seeing” what was under other women’s clothing.

Ooh, now it’s getting interesting. Serena has grown quite a bit in her diplomacy and wisdom, first with David and now with the old keepers of the culture. I’m not prediciting how she’ll manage it, but I’d like to see the eventual entrance of the other distant niece due to inherit.
