My Shangri-la
My Shangri-la
Mabel Jones Gabbott
I too have built a Shangri-la,
An inner tower of my heart;
And here I keep my memories,
The lovely ones all safe apart;
A friend whose spirit lent me strength,
The day we found the blue jay’s nest,
A kindly word someone had said,
The love of those I love the best.
On days when life seems less worth while,
I seek new courage, hope from these.
Oh, everyone should build a tower,
A Shangri-la of memories.
(1943)

Well, there certainly is a more poetic and lilting feel to “Shangri-La” than “Zion”.
