Jeff, Charles Price had 15 children, all (apparently) with Elsa Mary Johnson. Some Ancestry trees show a Ruth Ann Galloway as another wife, but that looks unlikely to me.

My aunt does know of yet another woman, Mary Rinalda Petersen, who Charles married in the Endowment House in Salt Lake in 1876. There were no children, as far as she knows.

Charles Price was a member of his local Seventies quorum. He died in 1905; Elsa and 11 of his children survived him (the youngest was about 24). Here's a link to his obituary from the Deseret News that contains some other information about him.

Thanks for your interest!

I have become very interested in Charles Price, so I want to know when he married his plural wives and were they still together when the letter was written? How many children did he have? How soon after he left office did he die? Did his widows have young children at his death? What does his obituary say about his public office? Did he hold LDS Church offices? You really have me hooked!

Thanks, everyone! Ardis, I just got a great email from my "new" cousin Kevin. Thanks for putting us in touch.

Kevin Price, I'll reply shortly. :-)

Anne, thanks for your kind comment!

Researcher, I've loved learning from your comments on Keepa. (And I'm a fan.) :-)

Oh, and it was a Bentley family website that first gave me some valuable info about the Prices — and taught me to cast my net a bit wider than I had been. It's fascinating to trace the web of interconnections linking those early families. It's made me see "Brother" and "Sister" in a new light. Thank you!

Maurine, I'm a fan of yours too. Thanks for the kind words!

Wonderful how you've pieced together his life from sources other than diaries and letters.

I'm currently trying to write the life history of one of my husband's ancestors (a non-Mormon in early Utah) from information like this. It's a daunting task, but this post is encouraging.

And I had to look up the St. George people you mention to see if any of the women in the family are on the Eminent Women list, but it looks like they aren't, although the mothers or grandmothers of some of Richard and Elizabeth Price Bentley's sons- and daughters-in-law were.

Thanks for the bio, SLK!
