Count me in as one of those who saw the title yesterday and who immediately worried Ardis was bidding us farewell.

Nice poem, by the way. Oh, and if “God be with you” became “Goodbye,” then “God goes with you” would be “Goodgye.” I dare someone to use it IRL. Heh.

I’ve been looking at my site stats today. There was a huge bump in traffic yesterday afternoon, and the only other anomaly is the huge number (like, five times as many as poetry usually gets) of visitors to this post. I can’t account for that except for assuming that people saw the title in an aggregator and thought this was something other than what it is.

Hmmm. I’ll have to hunt up some poems with titles like “Farewell Cruel World” or “Cash Giveaway” or “Instant Weight Loss” and see if I can replicate this …

Yeah, I’ll have to pay more attention to titles, maybe!

Glad you’re enjoying these. I agree that there have been few that have real staying power (I can think of a couple, though, that I think belong in Mormon anthologies). They do seem to say something about who we were and are, and I like to think of the poets, at least the mothers and homebodies among them, stretching themselves to be artistic and then finding the same pleasure we all get at finding an audience.

By the way, what a nice collection this is! These poems may not be as memorable as some of the great world classics, but they’re certainly very well done, and worth remembering.
