The Sparrows’ Thanksgiving Feast
The Sparrows’ Thanksgiving Feast
By Thelma J. Lund
I watched the fluttering sparrows eat their fill
Of pyracantha berries when the chill
Of winter held earth in its frozen grip,
And felt a joyous thrill I did not clip
The berried branches as a center spray
For my Thanksgiving table that bleak day.
(1955)

I liked this a lot. Not just the sentiment, but the mention of pyracantha. I associate that spiky bush with my Utah childhood!
