MHA is arranging for cost-cutting possibilities at Calgary like relatively nice dormitory apartments for students or families, like the university cafeteria and food court nearby, and modest travel grants available on a limited basis to students who present papers. Please notice in the Call for Papers the possibilities mentioned for papers from other disciplines than history. As Ardis suggests, the program committee generally prefers papers that relate to history in some way. I didn’t think our intention has been to focus as tightly on history as she suggests

Not to mention Calgary is one of the most expensive cities in Canada, it is the like the Utah of the North

As for a theology section, there often are a few papers that deal with the development of this or that idea or practice. MHA generally tries to keep the focus narrowly on history rather than on Mormon studies in general, so any theological paper will have a heavy historical bent.

Chris, I hope so. It’s too early to know for sure, though — MHA is prohibitively expensive for those of us without institutional support.
