Clark, mission president’s children sometimes sneak into these pictures. It looks like there are three missionary couples in this picture, based on the girl-boy-girl-boy arrangement of much of that second row — maybe he’s the child of one of them.

Joseph Ritchie, subject of this Keepa post, is also in the Central States mission photo; 3rd row, 5th from right. I'm still mystified by the guy in the front row that looks like he has a child on his lap, though.

I don’t think I have ever heard of any ward taking any kind of pictures like these ever in my life. Granted I am only a little bit over a half century old, but maybe not old enough!

The chapel these children met in was just a block away from the cemetery — maybe a five minute walk, even while herding wiggly kids. Perhaps this was near Pioneer Day, or while the Sunday School was studying prophets, or something like that. In any case, it would have been the most convenient historical site for the kids of that ward to visit if the teachers wanted to take a field trip.

(These kids’ chapel was reconstructed with a few of the original materials up by the state capitol; my ward meets on that site now, in a typically ugly ’70s-style chapel.)

This Latter-day Saint Images is one of my favorite series at Keepa. I loved these photos! Thanks.

It seems somewhat extraordinary that an entire Sunday School group would gather at the Brigham Young grave, no? And this almost 40 years after his death. Maybe the site used to be more visited than it seems to be these days.
