Maybe, but the (our) Children's Friend had been in print since 1899, and so certainly had as much right as any other magazine to continue under that name had they chosen to do so.

I was told in Primary at the time that there was another magazine called The Children’s Friend so they had to change the name.

I don’t know the answer to that, andrew. My guess is they wanted it to have a new name and be a new magazine, just as the others were changed, but that’s only a guess.

Thanks Ardis. Parley’s account of Joseph’s rebuke of the guards has long been a sentimental favorite of mine when it comes to Church History moments.

I don’t mean to threadjack, but did the Church ever explain why it was, that when they introduced the “current” Church magazines in 1971, they dropped the “Children’s” part of the title and just went with “The Friend”?
