I also wondered how they were able to afford all of that. They suddenly go from selling something he didn't need to avoid going hungry for a few days, to affording all of that with no need to save up for it? Regardless, I still looked forward to reading each installment. :)

You think that's a mystery, Tiffany? How about finding a house, buying it, arranging financing, clearing the title, getting carpet laid and wallpaper hung, woodwork painted, draperies hung, floors scrubbed, etc., etc., all in time for a hot bath? And what's with that "let's have a hot bath"?? A bit racy for the Relief Society Magazine, don't you think?

Somebody please explain the money aspect of this to me. How in the world could it cost $10 to dry clean all her winter clothing, but the mortgage only costs $37 a month? And an apartment, albeit high end, costs $85? Since when did a house, on a large lot, in a decent neighborhood, cost less than half of an apartment rental?

On another note, I'm curious about Judith when she gave birth. Each of my family members that gave birth during the early 50's and early 60's were completely knocked out during labor and woke up to find themselves no longer pregnant. They weren't c-sections. Was this the norm? The episode mentions the smell of ether, but described Judith in obvious pain.

No dog? Richard should have a dog. I was really, really, hoping for a dog. Didn't Judith specify a dog in the LETTER?

Well, that's settled it for me. I'm never emptying my pockets or taking clothes to the cleaners ever again, for fear that I might misplace a LETTER!

More seriously, had I sat down to read this in its entirety, I likely would have given up on it long ago. But Ardis, you dangle each installment out there, allowing us to speculate like ward members getting a new bishop, building suspense and then dashing our hopes (well, maybe not really). The endings of these always seem to be a bit of an anticlimax, but the buildup to the last episode is turning out to be great fun. Keep'em coming, Keepa!
