Stereotyping 101!

John is wise and smart and good, and Alyn is flaky, given to hysteria, and concerned only with frivolous things. Obviously, she has to learn to completely submit herself to her husband's wishes. Yecchhh!

So, any guesses as to what kind of job Alyn is qualified for? A shop girl? The horrors. No doubt Bea and Wif will come shopping for china, and find Alyn working as a sales clerk.

I'm now holding out a vain hope for an O. Henry type ending.

And in all of this, I am committing a serious transgression as an (amateur) historian, completely viewing this story from at 21st century perspective., rather than through the lens of the middle 20th century, the domain of Ozzie and Harriett. One can only imagine John, speaking in his best Ralph Kramden voice, "Alyn, I'm going to send you to the moon!"
