PDOE, don’t give up on it! I promise that this isn’t a series of will-they-or-won’t-they take the kids; it’s just that Janet and Stevie have to make adjustments that kids in their birth families may take for granted — I promise that they do it nobly and cutely and happily. There may be moments of poignancy, but this will never be a sad or weepy series.

Hearing that there are many Janet-and-Stevie stories makes me despair a little bit. I can’t take repeated iterations of “will they find their family?”

I honestly can’t imagine myself refusing to take a child and their sibling. I can understand why maybe people couldn’t afford it; I just don’t think I could live with myself!

This is an interesting story. Olive Woolley Burt was a relative of my mother’s and she would mention from time to time something about her being a writer. Olive was a common name in our family, too. Thanks for printing these stories.

Also, your name seems very familiar, though I can’t remember where I’ve come across it. Would you give me a clue? Do you write for the Ensign often? I have just started to read your blog and am enjoying it.

I find I really like Olive W. Burt stories — good thing (for me) that she wrote so many. I’ve found five Janet-and-Stevie stories so far (counting this two-parter as a single story). They don’t really form a serial, though, since they’re stand-alone stories, so after posting the conclusion to this one, I’ll post the others occasionally, to recreate in part the experience of opening the Relief Society Magazine in, say, 1944 and unexpectedly finding another story about characters you already know and like.
