That's a sweet little story. I went back and checked the date, because it seemed very specific to a certain time period, and yep, it was from the mid-50s. The story is a bit reminiscent of Pearl Buck's story, "Christmas Day in the Morning" (1955), which has been made into a church movie and tells the story of the boy who does his father's farm chores. It looks like that story has been illustrated by a nice Mormon illustrator, Mark Buehner.
