What a touching reflection of this great artifact.

I grew up in Pittsburgh (which as Pittsburghers and Philadelphians alike will make clear is NOT Philadelphia!) where we had our share of great historical landmarks and treasures. When I lived in Utah during my BYU years and now in Michigan for my professional life, I missed that deep physical connection with our nation's founding.

Beautiful. Brought a lump to my throat.

Reminds me of the scene in the film/musical "1776" where the bell is run as the signers affix their names. Probably didn't happen that way, but the image was wonderful literary/poetic license.

Thanks.

I was in one of the last groups to see it before they put it behind glass. That's where I came from, and those things are my history.

Being in Utah, I feel like a constant visitor in someone else's house. I think this might be part of why. This land's history just isn't my history. And I think you've touched on one of the most crucial parts of history.

Without love, there can be no history. No one would care enough to remember it.
