You know, i think back on the engagement/wedding ring ads i heard all the time on the radio when i lived in Utah (i can't recall the name of the one place that had the utterly omnipresent ads, but they were truly annoying), and i think the ads' pitches now are essentially the same, just slightly—but only slightly—subtler.

Thanks to David Y for pointing out the “not a divorce in a thousand” line, which I had overlooked before. Reminds me of the ads for Old Gold cigarettes: “Not a cough in a carload.” And equally likely to be true!

Green gold is an alloy that doesn’t use the copper. (The 18k and 14k gold we generally see is mixed with both copper and silver, and sometimes some other metals).

I know what white gold is and what rose gold is, but I had to look up green gold. It looks like it is a straight alloy of gold and silver, and has a slightly greenish tinge. Cadmium can also be added to the alloy to increase the green color, but products with cadmium in them tend to get recalled nowadays, including a recent large recall of Shrek drinking glasses, of all things.
