Keepa’s Post-Conference Wordle Puzzle — Come Play!
Another General Conference has just passed, which means it’s time to play Conference Wordles. I’ve run talks and other Conference materials from the past week through wordle.net and come up with the word clouds below. As you know, words that were used most often in a talk appear in large type, while words that appeared less often are in smaller letters.
Your mission, should you decide to accept it, is to identify the talk and the speaker (or other appropriate identification) for the word clouds. Use the talk files here for titles or any other help you need.
One solution per Keepa’ninny, though — if some puzzles are harder than others and go unsolved for too long, I’ll invite you to solve a second or third, or to give a clue for others to use. Here goes:
[UPDATE: All puzzles have now been solved, with a complete solution in comment #52. You can still play on your own, of course, without reading the comments. Thanks for the fun, y'all!]

So my feelings are hurt that I’ve thrown a party and nobody came … and I finally see the box full of email telling me that the comments had been turned off. Dunno how that happens.
Make me feel better. Come out and play.
Comment by Ardis E. Parshall — April 12, 2010 @ 10:11 am
I’m guessing no. 19 is Elder Holland’s wonderful talk “Place No More for the Enemy of My Soul.”
Comment by Hunter — April 12, 2010 @ 10:12 am
Hunter gets an extra point for being first and right.
Who’s next?
Comment by Ardis E. Parshall — April 12, 2010 @ 10:15 am
Number 15 Elder Rasband.
This talk was especially interesting to me because my daughter had recieved her mission call two days before.
Comment by Karen — April 12, 2010 @ 10:48 am
Karen’s right — it’s “The Divine Call of a Missionary” by Elder Rasband.
Comment by Ardis E. Parshall — April 12, 2010 @ 10:58 am
Just as a side, note, these never get old to me. It really is an interesting perspective. Makes me want to do it before I speak in church next.
Comment by J. Stapley — April 12, 2010 @ 11:01 am
#2 is just screaming Packer to me.
Comment by Ben — April 12, 2010 @ 11:11 am
I won’t answer another one for a while since I just did, but I gotta say that #8 made me laugh.
Comment by Ben — April 12, 2010 @ 11:13 am
Somehow most of the talks this time seemed to run together — perhaps it was the influence of small children, and maybe I need to take notes — but I’m not coming up with anything except for a talk I didn’t even see and haven’t read yet: #18 would be Elder Oaks on healing the sick.
Comment by Researcher — April 12, 2010 @ 11:26 am
#9 Come O thou King of Kings. (The songs were easy) I second #2 Elder Packer that Ben already guessed. The only other one I could tell at a glance was #21, but I’ve used up my guess.
This is fun, Ardis.
Comment by Bored in Vernal — April 12, 2010 @ 11:28 am
Thanks for reassuring me that these aren’t tiresome, J. — any solutions?
“Ben is right!” she screamed, “No. 2 is Pres. Packer’s ‘Power of the Priesthood’!!!!!”
(And thanks for laughing at #8 — I hoped to throw a monkey wrench in with that one, and laughter is just as good.)
Comment by Ardis E. Parshall — April 12, 2010 @ 11:28 am
#13 is Elder Bradley D. Foster about influence of mothers.
Comment by Maurine — April 12, 2010 @ 11:30 am
Researcher, I was amazed at how many of the wordles had PRIESTHOOD so prominently, and how many talks there were on women … well, mothers, all mothers, and nothing but mothers … which makes several of the wordles very much alike. You’re right with #18 and Elder Oaks.
BiV, using a few songs was another trick I hoped would make this just a little bit harder — but I couldn’t fool you! You’re right about #9.
Comment by Ardis E. Parshall — April 12, 2010 @ 11:31 am
And Maurine scores!
Time for a recap. I’ll put it in the next comment.

#20 is How Firm a Foundation. I forgot you do this, Ardis! What a fun reminder.
Comment by Ben Pratt — April 12, 2010 @ 11:40 am
These are all blank for me, in Firefox AND Safari. I just see numbers, no clouds.
Comment by Ben S — April 12, 2010 @ 11:42 am
Thanks, Ben. Would it be wrong to admit that even while I’m listening to Conference, I wonder how a talk will turn out as a wordle?
And you’re right about #20.
Comment by Ardis E. Parshall — April 12, 2010 @ 11:43 am
Ben, your workplace may not allow images from photobucket.com, which is where I upload them. Coffinberry and perhaps others have had the same problem. Sorry.
Comment by Ardis E. Parshall — April 12, 2010 @ 11:58 am
Ardis, I think that your confession in comment #18 could actually be a valuable listening strategy, for the wordle of course provides one measure of the meat of a talk.
Comment by Ben Pratt — April 12, 2010 @ 11:59 am
I was thinking of President Dieter F. Uchtdorf’s talk in the Priesthood session, was #7. What was it called “Continue in Patience”? I see the Wordles maintain capitalization.
Comment by Bruce Crow — April 12, 2010 @ 12:02 pm
Yes,you’ve got #7 Bruce.
The capitalization thing affected two or three of the wordles, but I liked the arrangements so didn’t bother to redo them. Another time maybe I will.
Comment by Ardis E. Parshall — April 12, 2010 @ 12:06 pm
I’ve emailed the images embedded in a Word doc to those I know cannot see the images. If anyone else wants that, leave a comment or send a note to AEParshall[at]aol[dot]com .

Isn’t 14 Charles Wesley? I can’t remember seeing him, but I heard some of his words.

1. “Preparation Brings Blessings”-President Monson

My brain is warped from thinking so much…but thanks for the fun Ardis!!
Comment by Vicki Standing — April 12, 2010 @ 12:26 pm
Yeah, Mark, now what would he have been saying? Oh, I know, “A-a-a-a-a-le-e-e-e-lu-u-u-u-u-ia!”
Time for another recap in a minute.
Comment by Ardis E. Parshall — April 12, 2010 @ 12:36 pm
Vicki has them all solved (nice break from your regularly work, eh?) — I’ve edited your comment, though, to allow latecomers the chance to play along, too.

Comment by Maurine — April 12, 2010 @ 12:44 pm
Ardis, I thought you would edit out my additional comments so people couldn’t see them. SORRY
Comment by Maurine — April 12, 2010 @ 12:45 pm
Maurine, I will — it just takes me a minute or five to do it while I’m juggling other things! Am about to do that.
[later: done]
Comment by Ardis E. Parshall — April 12, 2010 @ 12:53 pm
Okay, I guess it’s time to open this up to any Keepa’ninny who wants to solve a second puzzle. Let’s get this cleaned up before I go home tonight.
Comment by Ardis E. Parshall — April 12, 2010 @ 1:49 pm
This was way fun. I took good notes on all of the talks this time around, for my own benefit, not for the puzzle. But, it helped.
Comment by Maurine — April 12, 2010 @ 6:41 pm
#3 Quentin Cook, We Follow Jesus Christ
Comment by Bored in Vernal — April 12, 2010 @ 6:49 pm
I thought this would be a no-brainer, but it is a very good challenge, and I like the format to the puzzles (having been a high school journalism teacher in a former life). This will–happily–take me some time.
Comment by Joe Heagany — April 12, 2010 @ 6:54 pm
I’m really glad so many of you haven’t been wordled out — I like ‘em.

ok, if no one else is going to say it, #8 is the Statistical Report, including “Former General Church Officers and Other Prominent Church Members Who Have Passed Away since Last April.”
Comment by Bored in Vernal — April 12, 2010 @ 10:12 pm
#10 was Gregory A. Schwitzer. That was an easy one, he’s really the only one who talked about Martha.
Comment by Bored in Vernal — April 12, 2010 @ 10:15 pm
#11 must be Richard G. Scott, He Lives. Right?
Comment by Bored in Vernal — April 12, 2010 @ 10:18 pm
#12 is Dieter Uchtdorf “You are my Hands…” the word “hands” gave that one away!

#16 D. Todd Christofferson. Got it from the word “Tyndale.”
Comment by Bored in Vernal — April 12, 2010 @ 10:21 pm
Should I leave the last 2 for someone else? I don’t want to be greedy!
Comment by Bored in Vernal — April 12, 2010 @ 10:22 pm
Hey, the “someone elses” could have jumped in, BiV (a couple did, early on and get equal credit for solving these), so this is just fine.
