I listened to the YW broadcast last nite and today with my kids — I think they are reminding the youth (and us) of the spiritual power that comes with sexual purity — to be able to have the Spirit flowing freely in our lives and to be worthy for temple blessings.

(And I really try hard not to, but I do envy your ability to keep historical information straight and clear. My brain just muddles it.)

Parshall Mon, 29 Mar 2010 04:07:28 +0000 http://www.keepapitchinin.org/?p=6463#comment-20978 I’ve been reading commentaries for additional insights into what is still a very strange text for me (although I’ve read the Old Testament through [once only], it turns out that all my other experience with it has been the same as invoked by this year’s manual — a superficial cherry-picking of stories that can be pressed into service to illustrate modern Mormon ideals of living — and one that skips lightly through the books with no attempt at continuity). The commentaries by LDS authors are surprisingly unhelpful — they tend to comment only when some distinctive Mormon idea is involved — but I’ve found some general Christian commentaries that have been quite helpful.

Joseph was held in the same regard by Potiphar in prison as he was when in charge of the household. Perhaps Potiphar had some reason to suspect his wife’s fidelity?
