Christmas-Themed Puzzler
Let’s celebrate Christmas and Friday both, with a puzzle submitted by Coffinberry!
As usual, please solve only one letter so that readers who come a little later can play too; if there are still letters to solve late in the morning, feel free to solve another one.
My whole has 18 letters:
___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___
1. 10-3-8-11 is what they did to the tree (and cultural hall!) beforehand.
2. Everyone brought a 4-8-9-6 to share.
3. 6-15-11 is what you likely ate there.
4. Angelic voices from the 14-7-8-11-2-16-18 probably sang to you that night.
5. 1-12-9-6 is what the same ten people did afterward.
6. Cuz’ it was His birthday, after all: 5-6-3-8-13-17.

8 is I. That should get things moving.

14 is P
Comment by Mark B. — December 11, 2009 @ 8:45 am
Now we’re cookin’ –
8 is indeed I (and, as if he had bought the right vowel from Vanna, Last Lemming has chimes chiming and lights lighting all over the puzzle board).
Mark B. knows that 14 is indeed P.
And since I didn’t create the puzzle and had to solve it on my own, I get to play, too: 11 is M.

6 is H
Comment by Amira — December 11, 2009 @ 10:01 am
It is!
_ _ _ _ _ H _ I _ _ M _ _ P _ _ _ _
(That means, in clue 3, that “what we ate there” was “H_M” — gee, I wonder what 15 could be?)
Comment by Ardis E. Parshall — December 11, 2009 @ 10:14 am
1 is W
Comment by Justin — December 11, 2009 @ 10:35 am
Yup:

I’m gonna take a wild guess and say that 15 is “A”

Bingo!
W _ _ _ _ H R I _ _ M _ _ P A _ _ _
That means, according to clue #4, that those angelic voices came from the PRIM_ _ _ — come on, what’s the most angelic choir you’ve ever heard? Hm?
Comment by Ardis E. Parshall — December 11, 2009 @ 1:09 pm
9 is S
Comment by Maurine — December 11, 2009 @ 1:10 pm
I’ve got it figured out, but will cease from giving hints.
Comment by Maurine — December 11, 2009 @ 1:13 pm
Thanks, Maurine. (But I won’t lay off the hints myself!
)
W _ _ _ _ H R I S _ M _ _ P A _ _ _
So what do we do to the tree (clue #1)? We _RIM it! Gee, I wonder what letter 10 is?
Comment by Ardis E. Parshall — December 11, 2009 @ 1:14 pm
Er… could 10 be T?
Comment by Researcher — December 11, 2009 @ 1:32 pm
Um, I’ll plug it in, tentatively, and we’ll see whether it works out, Researcher …
W _ _ _ _ H R I S T M _ _ P A _ _ _
Comment by Ardis E. Parshall — December 11, 2009 @ 1:36 pm
2 = A?
[fingers crossed]
Comment by Hunter — December 11, 2009 @ 1:42 pm
If I could set off skyrockets, I would! Hunter plays, and scores!

Comment by Ardis E. Parshall — December 11, 2009 @ 2:12 pm
This is fun. Maybe I’ll share it at our Stake Holiday Celebration, if I can get out of being part of the same 10 people….
Comment by Matt W. — December 11, 2009 @ 3:06 pm
And what are you and your 9 friends doing, Matt? How many letters does it have, and what are they?
Time to open up the puzzle to anybody who wants to solve a second or third letter — please.
Comment by Ardis E. Parshall — December 11, 2009 @ 3:13 pm
17 should be T.
Comment by kew — December 11, 2009 @ 7:21 pm
Oo! The game’s back on!

Comment by Ardis E. Parshall — December 11, 2009 @ 7:29 pm
I’m guessing that 5 is C.
Comment by Mark B. — December 11, 2009 @ 8:59 pm
I’m guessing that you’re right …
W A _ _ C H R I S T M _ _ P A _ T Y
Comment by Ardis E. Parshall — December 11, 2009 @ 9:11 pm
3 is R
Comment by Maurine — December 11, 2009 @ 9:29 pm
W A R _ C H R I S T M _ _ P A _ T Y
Thanks, Maurine. I’m sure anybody who checks back already knows the solution, so should I just finish it up?
W A R D C H R I S T M A S P A R T Y
That was fun!
Comment by Ardis E. Parshall — December 11, 2009 @ 9:35 pm
I’ll buy a vowel, seeings as how Ardis says we can do two more parts of the puzzle. 12=A
Comment by Maurine — December 11, 2009 @ 9:38 pm
We crossposted, so you can keep the price of the vowel.
Thanks for helping to make this a success!

Thanks to Coffinberry for coming up with this fun puzzle. You were a bit tricky by assigning letters to two or three numbers sometimes, though.
