I had a chance to run through these pieces on the organ this evening. This one was kind of fun played with really reedy-sounding stops. Sounded like a merry-go-round. Definitely not sacrament meeting music, but perhaps a ward Christmas party.

Nice enough, but hardly memorable. And of course, parts of it would have to be rewritten for contemporary use.

Oh, you don’t have to tip-toe quite that carefully, Coffinberry — I’ve told you I’m not vouching for the worthiness of these! But if it gives a flavor of the past, the same way some of the jokes and images and stories do, without necessarily reflecting on today, that’s okay.

While waiting for the blonde brownies to bake (I’m FHE treat tonight) I printed this off and ran thru it twice on my piano.

Hm. Now let me preface this: I’m a folk-song lover at heart, and sentimentally fond of I-IV-V and waltz-chorded music. But I didn’t like this. In its defense, it is a good example of music of the period, but it is nevertheless a little lightweight.
