Love these. I read them to my kids. They love them too. My daughter got “Slow Up” right away. It took me a little bit.

I don’t know whether calling somebody a fish was a real piece of slang in 1938 or just a dumb excuse for this punchline: What the Dean heard the Freshman say wasn’t “That’s our dean,” but rather “That sardine!”

I liked “Safe for democracy” and “Careful, Bud” the best, but I laughed at most of them. I didn’t get the “Slow Up!” joke either. Maybe I’m just not awake enough yet.
