These covers remind me, too, that etchings and engravings were a wildly popular form of art early in the 20th century, although we tend to overlook them now because of their black-and-white “plainness.”

(Red and blue here, black and cyan on the two before that). A quick glance back at previous posts indicates that the Improvement Era went to full 4-color covers while the Instructor and the RS Mag stayed with the budget 2-color jobs.
