this is a beautiful series, ardis. many of the images so far have shown relatively fair weather, although having lived in the midwestern plains i know that it is not so much fair as it is really HOT. but i prefer being too hot to being too cold, and looking at this cover reminds me of the intense cold those pioneers endured for so long. brrrr!
I think of these magazine covers as a kind of cultural heritage, too, regardless of whether they are Mormon-created or borrowed from outside. There’s also sometimes an element of nostalgia –like kevinf who remembered an earlier posting, I *think* I remember this one from real life, too, maybe not when it was delivered by the mailman, but at least in the stack of my mother’s saved magazines.
