This is actually a column I had in the Salt Lake Tribune a couple of years ago. A week or two after it appeared, I heard from some Miles family descendants who had been surprised to open the paper and see this story about their ancestor — apparently it had not been talked about in the family, at least not so that the grandchildren had ever heard it. It was fun to send my sources and be able to help them find an unexpected piece of family history.
