Ardis, I just finished reading the piece and reached the same conclusions you did: a judiciously balanced, well written piece. I enjoyed it very much and I’m looking forward to the release of his book on the handcart disaster.

Nice write-up, Ardis. I actually have Roberts’ In Search of the Old Ones on my bookshelf — picked it up at a gift shop on the south rim of the Grand Canyon about five years ago. Read a couple of chapters and didn’t think much of it, but maybe I’ll give it another shot now.
